Preventing Breakage

We’ve all experienced it: broken frizzy damaged hair that seems to pop up out of nowhere. Although it is impossible to stop breakage altogether, there are things that we do to our hair that continue to break and damage strands beyond repair.

There are three types of breakage that happen most often. The first is manual breakage, which is from combing or manipulating hair too roughly. The second is physical breakage, which happens as a result of extreme temperatures such as heat appliances or freezing winter air. There is also chemical breakage caused by chemical treatments such as relaxers, Brazilian blowouts, or Kertain Treatments.

Here are some tips for preventing your hair from breaking any more than necessary.

Break Your Bad Hair Behavior

What’s important to remember is anything in excess can potentially damage and break hair.  But if you notice more breakage or any hair loss, assess your routine and eliminate the hair breaking behavior.

Prevent Breakage with Moisture

Healthy hair maintenance means moisturizing your hair regularly. If hair is properly moisturized, it is less likely to break. Find a deep conditioning treatment you like and use your Q-Redew regularly to infuse moisture into your hair’s cuticle. This will help improve its elasticity so breakage is less frequent and severe.

Detangle Damp Hair, Not Wet Hair

Hair is most fragile when it is wet, so manipulate it as little as possible during washing and drying. The Q-Redew can assist you with your detangling regimen. The steam adds moisture to your hair, which makes it less likely to break as you remove tangles.

Trim Damaged Ends

It’s not just your ends that you need to worry about when you start to get damage or split ends. It will gradually move up the hair if not taken care of. Trim your hair regularly using hair shears (paper scissors can cause further breakage) or visit a stylist you trust.

Healthy Scalp = Healthy Hair

Healthy hair can’t grow from a damaged scalp. Boost your scalp’s health by gently massaging or using treatment oils or serums.

Know Your Regimen

You may need to adjust your regimen according to the weather or your hair’s length. It’s always good to be aware of how your handling is affecting your hair’s health. If you start to notice more breakage, it may be time to reassess your routine.
