One of the biggest topics in the curly community is how to grow longer hair. Since curls and coils are prone to dryness and breakage, retaining length can be problematic for many naturally curly girls. There are many different methods/products/supplements/techniques out there, and each of these have their own benefits, but we’ve boiled them down to the basics that any natural should know when growing out their hair. What we found was that the Q-Redew has exactly what you need to help you achieve your hair length goals! Here are the key points:
And by moisture, we mean water; your hair gets thirsty, too! Although conditioners and moisturizers have their place, don’t forget that the best way to hydrate your hair is with water. This is where the Q-Redew comes into play. Q-Redew’s steam temporarily lifts the hair’s cuticle allowing for deeper penetration of moisture into the hair shaft. The end result is well-hydrated hair. Apply a leave-in conditioner afterwards to keep that moisture coming.
Heat is your enemy
We know that chemicals and relaxers can damage your hair, but heat can be just as detrimental to the health of your tresses. All that moisture you’ve been diligently adding to your hair is sapped out, leaving your hair brittle and prone to breakage. Used to using a dryer or iron to style your hair? Try a wash and go or twist-out instead. Think you can’t pull off a wash and go style? There are many ways that you can use the Q-Redew to style your hair! Condition your hair and scalp
We’ve already established the need for moisture, but conditioner not only moisturizes, it adds nutrients that contribute to hair elasticity that will help to prevent hair breakage by allowing your hair to stretch when pulled or combed. It’s also important to make sure that your scalp is well conditioned. A healthy scalp means healthy hair. Try pre-poo treatments that include a scalp massage and deep conditioning with your favorite conditioner or DIY recipe. Trim when needed
Cutting your hair might seem contradictory when you are trying to grow out your hair, but damaged or split ends will only continue to cause you problems, moving farther up the hair shaft. No matter what a product says, there is no way to “repair” split ends. The only way to get rid of damaged hair is to trim the ends. However, that doesn’t mean you need to go crazy with the clippers. Routinely check for and snip off damaged ends using hair scissors. Do not use regular scissors since they are not as sharp and can create further splits and damage. If you’ve been following a good regimen, and your ends are healthy, then there is no need for a trim.
Find your signature protective style
Protective styles live up to their name: protecting your hair from being stretched, over manipulated, and whatever weather Mother Nature throws your way. Find a style you like and stick with it for a while. Your hair will thank you!
Healthy lifestyle: Healthy hair
Eating right, taking vitamins, exercising, drinking enough water… we all know the healthy habits that are good for our bodies. This means that they are good for your hair, too.
This may be the most difficult item on the list. Remember that growing out your hair will take time and a lot of maintenance. As long as you keep your hair moisturized, healthy, and protected, you should be seeing results in as little as a few months, but it could take a year. Just be patient and love your hair each step of the way.
